Steelhead

Oswego County offers some of the best steelhead fishing in New York State. The Salmon River is one of the best places in the county to chase after these awesome fish.

Steelhead fishing on the Salmon River starts to get hot around the middle of October and runs right into the end of April. October through December and March through April being the hottest times. Keep in mind though the best fishing times are also when the most people are on the rivers. If you can handle the cold January and February can be a great time to catch Steelhead without the crowds.

Steelhead, often called Rainbow Trout on steroids, are some of the most powerful fighting fish on earth. They often leap out of the water putting on a great acrobatic show.
