It was nice to get out on the ice with my family two days this week. Unfortunately it was the only 2 days we were on the ice in 2024 as last winter didn’t provide a lot of safe ice.

This past week we spent back to back days on Perch Lake in Jefferson County. The first day provided much more action than the second but we had a great time both days. After day two I cleaned 75 perch and one northern pike so it was definitely a successful outing.

Beckett caught his first fish on a tip up on his own and Gunnar caught the largest pike of the trip at 27.5 inches. They are both becoming quite the fisherman. Gunnar would rather watch tip ups and chase flags than jig and Beckett just wants to catch fish anyway he can.

With warm temps and rain the past 2 days, our ice fishing is on hold for a little while. There are cold temps in the forecast and the weather models show that they are here to stay. If they are right, we should have one of the best ice fishing seasons in years.

I will be offering ice fishing trips this season for up to 4 anglers. All equipment is provided. These can be great family outings. If you have always wanted to try ice fishing or if you experienced and just want to try a new area, I can accommodate you. Give me a call to discuss the many options from pike and panfish to walleye.

I had the pleasure of taking Jimmy and his nephew Timmy fishing yesterday. We met at All Seasons Sports at 6 am and headed out hoping to catch some bass, rainbow trout, and walleye.

The fishing was slow and it seemed like every time we has the fish figured out the bite would stop. We did manage to put 17 fish in the boat by the end of our trip. The trout eluded us but we did get 2 walleye, a few smallmouth bass, a bluegill and a bunch of perch.

We were fishing from the drift boat and most of on fish came on crawler harnesses or Berkley Flicker Shads.

Salmon season is quickly approaching but if you want to get out and fish an area with the opportunity to catch multiple tasty species give me a call. We can even fly fish. Both casting and trolling flies.

There was safe ice today on Sackets Harbor inside the marina. The pike bite was good. I am thinking it might be fishable tomorrow but after that it will be no good until it gets cold again.

The pike and panfish bite on Lake View has been ok but again tomorrow will be the last day I would venture out on it until it gets cold again.

Rollaway Bay on Black Lake had a very good Crappie bite and had 6 inches of ice. It might stay good through the weekend but I would make a phone call or two before making the drive.

As you can see this warm weather is going to put a damper on our early ice. Hopefully Christmas week will lock everything back up for us and we will be back out there.

Take advantage of warm weather and hit the rivers for Steelhead or Brown Trout. That is what I will be doing tomorrow morning. The trout bite has been hot in Oswego and on the Salmon River.

I just talked to a friend of mine who was out on Sandy Pond on the 1st. He said there was fishable ice at Green Point and he went out a little ways at the Wig Wam but not far enough to want to fish.

He did fish at Green Point for a couple hours and catch a decent amount of fish but nothing big. All the reports I am hearing have been small fish so far.

After last nights cold spell the Wig Wam and Green Point should both be fishable. Hopefully we won’t get the warm up they are calling for and will continue to build ice over the next week.

I have a friend headed to Sackets Harbor on Saturday and will get a report up as soon as I hear from him.
