Spring Brown Trout fishing on the shores of Lake Ontario starts shortly after ice out and runs through mid May. This trip is a trolling trip on the shoreline of Lake Ontario. Casting spoons or flies from the drift boat is also an option.
This is a great chance to end that cabin fever and possibly catch a trophy Brown. Spring brown trout fishing trips can be either morning trips or afternoon trips. Brown trout fishing is normally best from first light until about 11 if it is a sunny day. Then in the afternoon from 2 or 3 until dark the bite will pick up again.
The fall brings a chance at these gorgeous fish in the rivers and streams. The run on the Salmon River seems to be getting better and better every year. Many smaller streams in the area also see nice runs of brown trout when they have water in them.
There are a good number of streams that hold resident brown trout. I float my raft or walk into these streams during the summer spring and summer months. These trips are often combined with other species such as smallmouth bass or rainbow trout. One special stream offers brown trout, brook trout, rainbow trout, and smallmouth bass.
Cayuga Lake also offers great opportunities to chase brown trout along with other trout species. Click on the Finger Lakes tab for more information.
